Schip Laurel (Cherry Laurel)

Schip Laurel (Cherry Laurel) – Lush Privacy and Year-Round Green

Create a dense, evergreen privacy screen with the elegant Schip Laurel. Known for its glossy, dark green leaves and upright growth, Schip Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus ‘Schipkaensis’) is a favorite for hedges, borders, and shaded areas where other evergreens may struggle.

  • Deer Resistant: Offers moderate deer resistance—less palatable than many broadleaf evergreens.
  • Sun Requirements: Thrives in partial shade to full shade; tolerates morning sun but prefers protection from harsh afternoon sun.
  • Water Needs: Prefers moist, well-drained soil; water regularly during establishment and in dry periods.
  • Height at Maturity: Reaches 10–15 feet tall and 5–7 feet wide, making it perfect for privacy screens and hedges.
  • Growth Habit: Upright, dense, and fast-growing (up to 2 feet per year).
  • Hardiness Zones: USDA Zones 6–9.

Planting Tips:

Plant Schip Laurels 3–5 feet apart for a dense hedge. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Water thoroughly after planting and apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late spring or early summer to maintain shape and encourage fullness.

We generally have Schip Laurels in 2′ to 3′ size and are growing more each year.
